With minimally invasive technology, ILIF can be used to perform a laminotomy, a procedure that decompresses the affected area. A temporary opening of the space between the boney ridges that compose the spine is created to relieve pressure on the nerves and the spinal cord.

A donor bone is then placed between these bony ridges in order to create a permanent opening in the areas that were pressing on the nerves or the spinal cord. It also promotes long term spine stabilization as the bones will fuse together.

The benefits of ILIF surgery include such things as it taking only approximately 45 minutes for the procedure, prevents further destabilizing of the spine, uses a cutting edge design spacer to promote decompression of the area and requires no screws for the procedure.
